What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Education and public involvement to protect public and environment for toxic and nuclear waste cleanup in the Northwest focusing on risks from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Promote openness in government.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Research, organizing public informational workshops and educational campaigns on the cleanup of the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Including participation in the Hanford Advisory Board and collaboration with affected Tribal Nations on comments and development of advice for the Board. Prepared and submitted comments on numerous major cleanup plans. Documented leak from High-Level Nuclear Waste tank, which was publicly reported in 2021, was far greater than publicly reported and had been leaking for over two years. HoANW provides staff to perform research, attend advisory board meetings, prepare advice, and develop comments on proposed actions.

Includes research and program development as well as providing staff time working with students, and travel with students to visit Hanford and meet with Tribal and other officials. ed Current and former law students who went through our program assisted with legal challenge begun in 2022 to agreement between Washington and US Dept. of Energy to allow leaking High level Nuclear Waste tank to continue leaking indefinitely. Agreement reached in 2023 with agreement to have our experts participate in technology evaluation for leaking tanks. Extensive review of records. Organization program includes training and advocacy for open government in Washington and student skill training and advocacy.
