| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 | CAR REPAIR PROGRAM 2023: IN COOPERATION WITH THE LOCAL SCHOOL SYSTEM'S CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM, WE DEVELOPED A PROGRAM WITH THE AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY CLASSES TO SERVICE SINGLE MOMS' CARS. AS OF JANUARY 2024, WE HAVE REPAIRED 182 CARS. WITH OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS, AUTOZONE, GLASS SHOPS, UPHOLSTERY SHOPS, AND AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOPS, WE CAN CUT COSTS BETWEEN 30%-70% AND PROVIDE THE REPAIR SERVICES TO MOTHERS AT NO COST TO THEM. IN RURAL AREAS ESPECIALLY, BUT ALSO IN SMALLER CITIES, PROVIDING AND MAINTAINING RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION IS A KEY. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29 | CAR GIFTING PROGRAM 2023: TOTAL VALUE OF 5 GIFTED CARS: 29,500 BASED ON KELLEY BLUE BOOK ALSO, WE REPAIR DONATED CARS TO GIVE AWAY. AS OF JANUARY 2024, GIVING WORDS HAS GIVEN AWAY 46 CARS TO MOTHERS IN NEED. CURRENTLY, WE ACCEPT PRIVATE DONATIONS OF CARS, BUT WE HAVE CREATED A PARTNERSHIP WITH CARTER MYERS AUTOMOTIVE, A BUSINESS THAT HOUSES OVER 23 VIRGINIA DEALERSHIPS. NOT ONLY HAVE THEY REPAIRED CARS FOR US WHEN A CERTAIN DEALERSHIP, SUCH AS VOLKSWAGEN, WAS NECESSARY, BUT THEY ALSO HAVE ASSISTED OUR MOTHERS WITH WISE PURCHASES AND PLAN TO HELP US IN THE ACQUISITION OF AFFORDABLE, BUT RELIABLE USED CARS FOR OUR INCREASED DEMAND. EVERY CAR THAT WE GIVE AWAY IS INSPECTED, DETAILED, AND THOROUGHLY CHECKED OVER BY AN AUTO MECHANIC. THIS YEAR, TWO CMA SUBARU DEALERSHIPS, ONE IN RICHMOND AND THE OTHER STAUNTON, CHOSE TO SPONSOR GIVING WORDS IN THEIR "SUBARU SHARE THE LOVE" EVENT IN DECEMBER 2023. FOR EVERY SUBARU SOLD AT THOSE TWO DEALERSHIPS, THEY WILL DONATE 300 TO GIVING WORDS. THEY DONATED 47,000 BETWEEN BOTH DEALERSHIPS TO GIVING WORDS. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 30 | FINANCIAL RESOURCE PROGRAM 2023: FINALLY, WE RECOGNIZE THAT ALL FAMILIES INCUR IRREGULAR EXPENSES THAT DEMAND ADDITIONAL RESOURCES; SINGLE MOTHERS OFTEN DO NOT HAVE THAT CUSHION. WE STRIVE TO MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH COMMUNITY BUSINESSES, LOCAL CHURCHES, AND OTHER NON-PROFITS SO THE MOTHERS DO NOT HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO GO NEXT. IF WE CAN CONNECT THEM TO A RESOURCE THAT IS ALREADY AVAILABLE, LIKE A LOCAL FOOD BANK OR SOCIAL SERVICES, WE DO SO. IF THAT SERVICE IS UNAVAILABLE OR UNDERREPRESENTED, WE FIND A METHOD TO MEET THAT NEED. THIS PAST YEAR, WE GAVE AWAY A WASHING MACHINE, DIAPERS, AND WIPES, REPAIRED A MOTHER'S PLUMBING, HOSTED A COOKIE AND CRAFT PARTY, PROVIDED FREE LAY AND PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING, AND OFFERED FREE CLOTHING, FURNITURE, AND HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO MOTHERS AND THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH LOCAL CONSIGNMENT SHOPS AND PRIVATE DONATIONS. FOR ALL THESE SERVICES, WE PAY FOR THEM OR RECEIVE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 31 | STUDENT GIVE BACK PROGRAM 2023: SINCE THIS PROGRAM STARTED, WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE BACK TO THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS THAT SERVE OUR SINGLE MOTHERS. WE HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE 4 CARS TO STUDENTS AS WELL AS GIFT 6 CRAFTSMAN TOOL KITS TO STUDENTS AS WELL. RESPONSES FROM OUR MOTHERS 1.THESE TIMES ARE VERY HARD. I'M ETERNALLY GRATEFUL FOR GIVING WORDS AND ALL THEY DO TO HELP SINGLE MOTHERS LIKE ME THRIVE AND BOUNCE BACK. JUST KNOWING I'M NOT ALONE & THAT I HAVE A GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE PRAYING FOR ME AND PUSHING ME THROUGH HAS MEANT SO MUCH TO ME. 2.I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ORGANIZATION. THEY HAVE ALLOWED ME TO "BREATHE- AND HAVE RELIEVED SO MUCH WEIGHT OFF MY SHOULDERS MORE THAN A FEW TIMES. MANY TIMES, I FELT THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD AND COULD SEE NO WAY OUT OF THE STRUGGLES I'VE FACED AS A SINGLE MOTHER DURING A PANDEMIC THAT PUT ME IN A POSITION TO CHOOSE FOOD OVER TRANSPORTATION FOR MY LITTLE FAMILY. I'M GRATEFUL FOR GIVING WORDS 3.I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW HOW GIVING WORDS HELPED ME AND MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AT THE TIME OF NEED. I ONLY HAVE ONE VEHICLE AND IT NEEDED A LOT OF WORK DONE TO IT. I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT BECAUSE I AM A SINGLE MOTHER TAKING CARE OF EVERYTHING. I CALLED THEM FOR HELP AND THEY PUT MY CAR IN THE SHOP AND HAD IT FIXED FOR ME. I WAS SO BLESSED I WANT TO THANK GIVING WORDS FOR BEING THERE FOR ME AND MY DAUGHTER. THEY ARE AWESOME. 4.MY DAUGHTER REAR-ENDED ANOTHER DRIVER ON I-95 DURING HER DAILY COMMUTE TO VCU. THANKFULLY, SHE AND THE OTHER DRIVER WERE BOTH FINE. UNFORTUNATELY, HER CAR WAS NOT. IN FACT, IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. WITHOUT A VEHICLE, MY DAUGHTER COULDN'T GET TO HER CLASSES, AND I NEEDED OUR ONE REMAINING CAR TO COMMUTE TO LOUISA COUNTY EACH DAY FOR WORK. WITHOUT FAMILY IN THE AREA, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY VERSION OF, "YOU CAN BORROW GRANDPA'S SPARE TRUCK UNTIL WE FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO," WHEN SITUATIONS LIKE THIS ARISE. EITHER I DON'T GO TO WORK, OR SHE DOESN'T GO TO SCHOOL. THAT'S WHERE GIVING WORDS STEPPED IN. AS SOON AS EDDIE BROWN HEARD ABOUT OUR NEED, HE STARTED HELPING. WITHIN HOURS, HE'D CONNECTED US WITH A PARTNERING CAR DEALERSHIP, EDDIE CALLED LIZA BORCHES, CMA'S NETWORK PRESIDENT, AND SHE CONNECTED HIM WITH CMA'S COLONIAL HONDA. EDDIE REACHED OUT TO TIM COSGROVE, THE DEALERSHIP'S PRESIDENT, AND GENERAL MANAGER. TIM TURNED OUT TO BE CUT BY THE SAME CLOTH AS EDDIE, I.E. THE BEST KIND WHEN MY DAUGHTER AND I WALKED INTO THE DEALERSHIP, TIM MET US AT THE DOOR WITH A BIG SMILE AND INTRODUCED US TO CHRIS BROOKS, WHO ENTHUSIASTICALLY FOUND US THE PERFECT CAR AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. BUT TIM AND CHRIS WEREN'T THE ONLY TWO FRIENDLY FACES THAT DAY. EDDIE HIMSELF DROVE ALL THE WAY FROM LOUISA TO CHESTERFIELD, SO HE COULD FULLY SUPPORT US AS WE MADE THIS IMPORTANT PURCHASE. AS MY DAUGHTER SIGNED THE PAPERWORK FOR HER NEW RIDE, I ADMITTED TO EDDIE THAT I'D NEVER BOUGHT A CAR WITHOUT MY OLDER SISTER BY MY SIDE. EDDIE TRULY FILLED THE ROLE OF FAMILY THAT DAY. GIVING WORDS GRACIOUSLY FILLS SO MANY ROLES AND I'M GRATEFUL FOR EVERY ONE OF THEM. 5.GIVING WORDS HAS MEANT SO MUCH TO ME. BEING A NEWLY SINGLE MOM HAS BEEN SO SCARY AND HARD FOR ME. GIVING WORDS CAME AND BROUGHT BACK MORE CONFIDENCE AND GAVE ME MORE COURAGE TO SIMPLY BELIEVE. IMPORTANTLY IT'S CAUSED ME JUST TO HAVE A LITTLE MORE FAITH AND NOT TO PANIC. AND TO TRULY TRUST GOD WITH MY WHOLE LIFE. TODAY I HAVE MORE COURAGE THAT REBUILDING FROM THE GROUND UP ISN'T SO BAD. EVERYTHING TAKES TIME." |
