OUR FOCUS ON THE 2023 MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH THE FBI PHOENIX FIELD OFFICE PROMOTED THE ENGAGEMENT OF BOTH CHAPTER ALUMNI AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TO BETTER ASSIST THE FBI IN SERVING ARIZONA'S INCREASINGLY DIVERSE POPULATION. THIS SUMMARY HIGHLIGHTS THE FBIPCAAA'S 2023 GOALS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS. -ON JANUARY 18, 2023, THIRTY-FOUR CHAPTER MEMBERS ATTENDED A WELCOME BREAKFAST AND MOA SIGNING FOR AKIL DAVIS, THE NEW SAC. -ON FEBRUARY 9TH, THE PHOENIX CHAPTER HELD THE FIRST MIXER FOR THE NEW YEAR. THE EVENT WAS WELL RECEIVED. -ON FEBRUARY 10, 2023, MEMBERS FROM THE PHOENIX CHAPTER CONTRIBUTED TO THE SUCCESS OF A SUPERBOWL PARTY FOR UNDERSERVED CHILDREN. CHILDREN FILLED BAGS WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES, BOOKS, AND OTHER ESSENTIALS. LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WAS ON SITE AND, AS A SPECIAL TREAT, THREE FORMER SUPERBOWL PLAYERS WERE ONSITE SIGNING FOOTBALLS FOR ALL THE CHILDREN. -ON MARCH 14TH, THE CHAPTER HOSTED A ZOOM BROADCAST TO 79 MEMBERS AND GUESTS. FBI SPECIALISTS TALKED ABOUT ACTIVE SHOOTING INCIDENTS, WHICH ARE A MATTER OF NATIONAL CONCERN. LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS PRIORITIZED STUDYING AND ADDRESSING THE INDIVIDUAL WHO IS RADICALIZED TO ATTACK SOFT TARGETS. THE FBI IS DEDICATED TO MAKING PREVENTION OF SUCH ATTACKS A REALITY. THE PRESENTATION ADDRESSED: 1. WHAT WARNING SIGNS INDICATE RADICALIZATION. 2. WHAT IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES SHOULD UNDERLIE EMERGENCY PLANS. 3. WHAT YOUR ROLE IS IN THE TEAM-OF-TEAMS ADDRESSING SUCH THREATS. -ON MARCH 17TH, THE FBI HELD THE 2023 CITIZENS ACADEMY CLASS. THE CLASS WAS WELL RECEIVED BY 61 ATTENDEES. SEVERAL NEW MEMBERS SIGNED UP AT THE LIFE, AMBASSADOR, AND HOOVER LEVELS. -ON APRIL 12TH, THE PHOENIX CHAPTER HELD THE FIRST TUCSON MIXER FOR THE NEW YEAR. THE EVENT WAS WELL RECEIVED. -ON APRIL 27TH FBI PHOENIX CAAA WAS HONORED TO RECEIVE A DONATION FROM UPS OF 2500. -ON MAY 25TH THE PHOENIX CHAPTER HONORED THE GRADUATING CLASS IN RECOGNITION OF THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT. -ON JUNE 28 - 30, FBI PHOENIX CAAA BOARD MEMBERS ATTENDED THE NATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (NLC) IN BOSTON. TWO BOARD MEMBERS PRESENTED AT THE CONFERENCE. -ON JULY 6TH, 20 MEMBERS OF THE FBI PHOENIX CAAA ATTENDED A PRIVATE TOUR OF THE TUCSON AIRPORT AUTHORITY POLICE DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS, FOCUSING ON AIRPORT LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INTERACTION WITH TUCSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OPERATIONS. MEMBERS WERE GIVEN A TOUR OF SECURED AREAS DO NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC INCLUDING AIR OPERATIONS, AIRPORT POLICE OFFICES, AIRPORT SECURITY OFFICES, AIRPORT EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER, AND THE AIRPORT COMMUNICATIONS CENTER. A BRIEFING WITH OFFICERS AND STAFF ON HOW THEY WORK WITH TSA, WHERE THEIR JURISDICTION IS AND HOW/WHEN THEY OPERATE OUTSIDE THAT JURISDICTION, THEIR ROLE ON THE REGIONAL BOMB SQUAD AND OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING INVESTIGATION TEAMS, AS WELL AS SOME SAFETY AND INSIDER TIPS FOR TRAVELING THROUGH TUCSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. -ON SEPTEMBER 9TH, FBI PHOENIX CAAA ORGANIZED A FAMILY DAY AT THE MARTIN AUTO MUSEUM WHICH HOUSES ONE OF THE LARGEST PRIVATE COLLECTIONS OF RARE VEHICLES. THE EVENT WAS WELL CONCEIVED, UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO FAMILY COMMITMENTS AND OTHER PRIOR ENGAGEMENTS, THE EVENT WAS CANCELLED AND PLANS TO OFFER IT AGAIN IN 2024 ARE UNDERWAY. -ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2023, CHAPTER MEMBERS HAD A COMPREHENSIVE TOUR OF THE ARIZONA COUNTER TERRORISM INFORMATION CENTER (ACTIC), SUPPORTING ARIZONA HOMELAND SECURITY EFFORTS AND PROVIDING INTELLIGENCE, INVESTIGATIVE AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO STATE, LOCAL, TRIBAL, AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AS WELL AS OTHER AGENCIES CRITICAL TO ARIZONA AND THE COUNTRY'S HOMELAND SECURITY EFFORTS. -ON OCTOBER 3RD, THE FBI PHOENIX CAAA, HELD ITS ANNUAL GALA EVENT AT THE HEARD MUSEUM. THE HEARD MUSEUM IS A CELEBRATED INSTITUTION DEDICATED TO PRESERVING AND SHOWCASING THE RICH HERITAGE AND ART OF NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURES. APPROX 100 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE EVENT WHICH INCLUDED A SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF THE MUSEUM'S CAPTIVATING EXHIBITS, INCLUDING SOME OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT COLLECTIONS OF NATIVE AMERICAN ART AND ARTIFACTS. THE GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE EVENT WAS FRANK FIGLIUZZI, FORMER ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE FBI FOR COUNTERINTELLIGENCE -ON OCTOBER 21ST, MEMBERS OF THE FBI PHOENIX CAAA ATTENDED THE 20TH DESERT DOG POLICE K9 TRIALS & PUBLIC SAFETY EXPO. THE EVENT FEATURED TACTICAL CHALLENGES AND HANDLER PROTECTION OBSTACLES SUCH AS 7-FOOT BARRIERS FOR JUMPING, CALL OFFS, EXTRACTIONS, AND SO MUCH MORE. MORE THAN 150 VENDORS WERE FEATURED INCLUDING SWAT AND FIRE FIGHTING VEHICLES, PLUS HELICOPTER FLYOVERS, POLICE K9 DEMOS, RESCUE EQUIPMENT, EVEN FOOD AND SHOPPING OPTIONS. -ON DECEMBER 2, 3, AND 9TH, FBI PHOENIX CAAA PARTICIPATED IN THE SHOP- WITH-A-COP EVENT. THIS EVENT FOCUSED ON UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. MANY CHILDREN ATTENDED AND EVERYONE LEFT WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACE. -DECEMBER 12TH AND 14TH WERE RESERVED FOR THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY HELD IN PHOENIX AND TUCSON. |
