What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? ABCA will grow a robust cooperative economy of human-centered democratic workplaces housing and marketplaces in Austin & Central Texas by developing democratic skills and cooperative leaders; growing awareness of the cooperative business model with individuals like-minded organizations and local government; nurturing new cooperatives and converting existing businesses to cooperatives; enhancing community quality of life through businesses practices that are inclusive equitable and accessible.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 ACBA supports cooperative development and sustainability efforts in Texas by providing technical assistance to the public and membership engagement to association members. In 2023 ACBA worked with co-op coaching clients to provide technical assistance. ACBA provides coaching on business planning governance financial planning and facilitation. ACBA worked with a local community organization to facilitate the leadership training and business development for a cooperative owned grocery store. Special events included a job fair that showcased ACBAs members and other cooperatives in the region. Community outreach included a Co-op Census of the Austin area public information events about food co-ops and surveys for potential food co-op members.
