Return Reference Explanation
PART X, LINE 2 - FIN 48 FOOTNOTE: U.S. GAAP requires management to evaluate income tax positions taken and accrue an income tax liability if AFSCME or its affiliated entities have taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the Internal Revenue Service. Management has evaluated the income tax positions taken and concluded that as of December 31, 2023 and 2022, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability in the consolidated financial statements. AFSCME and its affiliated entities are subject to routine examinations by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. In addition, there has been no tax-related interest or penalties for the years presented in these consolidated financial statements. Should such penalties and interest be incurred, AFSCME's policy is to recognize them as miscellaneous expense.
