What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? A neighborhood swim team that was organized to provide an environment in which all eligible swimmers can learn and improve upon their swimming skills become the best swimmers they can be and be recognized for their accomplishments. The team is governed by a board of directors that is elected on a 2 year revolving basis. Explanation:
We are a small community summer swim team for kids 5-18. Its all volunteer run. We applied for a 501c7 and received a letter stating we were approved as a 501c7. We were small enough to filethe 990N through 2021. 2022 was the first year to file online. I filed the 990EZ on the due date and have the receipt. I assumed it went through and all was fine. I went on to file 2023 and I see that 2022 was rejected. I was horrified! The reason why it was rejected is because the IRS database has us as a 501c4 even though our letter states 501c7. I never received any documentation stating that it was rejected. Furthermore we though we could file the 2023 at the extension time but we found out we needed a form to file for the extension even though we dont owe taxes. We have learned our lessons and now know to file as a 501c4 or we will investigate why there is a discrepancy as well as double check that the form went through. We will also make sure everything is filed by May 15th.
