I am writing to provide an explanation of why this 990 Form was not filed by the May 15 deadline. We tried to file the form electronically on 5 14 23 5 15 23 and 5 23 23. Each time it was rejected because: The tax-exempt status section specified in the return doesn't match with the IRS E-file database. I believe this stems from the fact that our non-profit status stems from our afflition with a larger labor organization that we are a local of. The national union Communication Workers of America have said they have provided the IRS the request documentation multiple times. I was finally able to talk to an IRS customer service representative today who was able to get our organization added to the database so we could file our 990. Given the organziations repeated attempts to be compliant with IRS rules we are formally requesting a waiver of any penalties associated with this late filing.
