| Other | If you heard some thunderous applause recently know that it was for the Lake Superior Theatre to provide the Marquette community and surrounding areas with quality live theatre in a unique venue that has become a must see summer attraction! We serve over 5,000 patrons throughout the summer and our youth theatre show gave over 40 youth an opportunity to be involved in the arts. We are also able to hire over 40 theatre professionals and involve over 100 community members in our productions. In addition to our summer season, Lake Superior Theatre collaborates with a variety of community organizations, making our venue available for events that help support and publicize their fund raising efforts such as the Marquette Breakfast Rotary Annual Fishboil which last year raised over $55,000 to support youth activities in Marquette. Our grants helped us leverage matching support from many organizations and individuals in our community including: the Eagle Mine, Travel Marquette, Marquette Breakfast Rotary, Donkers Restaurant and Candies, Range Bank, The Vierling Restaurant, Mark Aho Financial Group, Incredible Bank, the Pasta Shop, Huron Mountain Bread, Babycakes Muffin Company, Pride Printing, Fraco, Kendricks Law, Signs Unlimited, Casa Calabria, and Vangos Pizza & Cocktail Lounge. Over the last 25 years the Marquette community has given us their continued support both financially, as well as with their time and talent which is essential when we transition the boathouse into a theatre each year! Lake Superior Theatre opened this year prior to the fish boil hosting the newly created Superior Shakespeare group who presented an incredibly visual & verbal treat presenting Hamlet. These same young people put together an amazing cabaret for a special performance for a visiting bus tour in appreciation. LST also celebrated its 25th anniversary by hosting Sandra Joseph and Ron Bohmer on July 10 for a special event that was comparable for a tour of Broadway shows without having to go to the airport. Although it was a stormy night the thunder during Phantom was incredible. Sandra Joseph presented LST with a hand made Perspective Box complete with paperwork to include so many wonderful kudos from attendees which made our heart sing. We began our season with a return to our signature historical musical, Beacon On The Rock - the story of mining in the UP. Beacon reminds us too that we are all immigrants seeking a better life. The families in Beacon left all that was familiar to them and came to a place that provided unimaginable challenges. They brought only their creative energy, intelligence, independence, persistence, and willingness to work hard. I often think that if we could test immigrants for these qualities, we would find they are built into their DNA, genetically passed along to future generations, and have served this country well. We hope those who came to Beacon are motivated to hear the story of an immigrant, perhaps in their own family, who came to America. We hope you will ask them to tell you their story, and that you will treasure and share it. We are so proud of these amazing individuals of diverse cultural heritage and talents! Our next adventure was I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change! which was fun for all. Jersey Boys swept the stage with an amazing cast and a spectacle that was a great success. The Odd Couple followed which was brought us the laughter we all needed. Honk! Jr. was our SAYT collaboration and brought our lively cast of soon to be stars magical musical memories. Our Superior Memories week featured our historical favorites who brought us narrated silent film footage from 1914-1949 accompanied by piano. Broadway to Blues was an another sold out success that was sentimental superior entertainment. Last but not least the Franklin Park Bank returned for that had everyone two nights of songs we all love that had everyone dancing in their seats! All of this also enhances our goal to make the Marquette Lower Harbor a destination for all. As we continue to inspire, educate, and entertain. Please follow our progress/check the schedule on lakesuperiortheatre.com, Facebook: Lake Superior Theatre, Twitter: https://twitter.com/lstmqt, or Instagram: https://instagram.com/lstmqt/ Lake Superior Theater continues to be a must do summer activity for Marquette and our mission is to make our lower harbor much more animated and economically viable place to Live, Work & Play. |
