THESE CLASSES INVOLVE ABOUT 20 CHILDREN EACH WEEK, WITH VOLUNTEER SUPPORT FROM 5 DEDICATED COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO CONSISTENTLY ASSIST IN TEACHING AND ORGANIZING THE CLASSES. - TIBETAN NEW YEAR (LOSAR) CELEBRATION: HELD IN FEBRUARY, MARKING THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON WITH TRADITIONAL PRAYERS AND CULTURAL PERFORMANCES, ATTENDED BY OVER 200 COMMUNITY MEMBERS. THE EVENT SAW A STRONG VOLUNTEER TURNOUT, WITH MORE THAN 20 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTING TO THE SETUP, DECORATIONS, AND EVENT COORDINATION. - MARCH 10TH - 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1959 TIBETAN UPRISING: THE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATED IN A MARCH FROM THE FEDERAL BUILDING TO THE STATE CAPITOL TO COMMEMORATE THIS HISTORIC EVENT, SYMBOLIZING TIBETAN RESISTANCE AGAINST CHINESE OCCUPATION. MORE THAN 10 VOLUNTEERS HELPED ORGANIZE THE MARCH, ASSISTED WITH LOGISTICS, AND PROVIDED SUPPORT ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT. - UTAH LIVING TRADITIONS FESTIVAL (MAY 17-19): THE ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATED IN THIS ANNUAL FESTIVAL, SHOWCASING TIBETAN DANCE, MUSIC, AND FOOD. OVER 30 VOLUNTEERS WORKED TIRELESSLY TO ORGANIZE THE EVENT, MANAGE FOOD STALLS, AND FACILITATE CULTURAL PERFORMANCES. - ASIAN FESTIVAL (JUNE 2ND): WE SET UP A CULTURAL BOOTH, DRAWING HUNDREDS OF ATTENDEES INTERESTED IN TIBETAN HISTORY AND CULTURE. A DEDICATED GROUP OF 10 VOLUNTEERS HELPED MAN THE BOOTH, ENGAGE WITH VISITORS, AND PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT TIBETAN HERITAGE. - WEST COAST PICNIC (JULY 1-6): TIBETANS FROM ACROSS THE WEST COAST GATHERED TO CELEBRATE HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA'S BIRTHDAY AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY BONDS. OVER 30 VOLUNTEERS HELPED WITH LOGISTICS, FOOD, AND ACTIVITIES, CONTRIBUTING TO THE SUCCESS OF THE EVENT. - TIBETAN DEMOCRACY DAY (AUGUST): THE COMMUNITY CELEBRATED WITH A POTLUCK EVENT, FOLLOWED BY TWO REPRESENTATIVES ATTENDING THE NORTH AMERICA TIBETAN ASSOCIATION MEETING IN WASHINGTON, D.C., TO DISCUSS STRENGTHENING TIBETAN CULTURE AND LANGUAGE. MORE THAN 10 VOLUNTEERS HELPED ORGANIZE THE POTLUCK AND ASSISTED WITH EVENT COORDINATION. - LONGSHO NIGHT FUNDRAISER (SEPTEMBER 28TH): THIS EVENT, SUPPORTING THE STUDENTS FOR A FREE TIBET MOVEMENT, INVOLVED OVER 20 VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING WITH EVENT SETUP, ENTERTAINMENT, AND FUNDRAISING EFFORTS. - DECEMBER COMMEMORATION: IN DECEMBER, WE CELEBRATED THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA'S NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. DURING THIS TIME, WE ALSO HELD A FUNDRAISER IN WHICH WE MADE 6,300 IN PROFIT, EXCEEDING OUR EXPECTATIONS. THE FUNDS WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE TRADITIONAL TIBETAN GARMENTS FOR EVERY DANCER AND STUDENT TO WEAR FOR CULTURAL PERFORMANCES, AS WELL AS TO PURCHASE TIBETAN BOOKS FOR WRITING AND LANGUAGE. THE EVENT SAW THE PARTICIPATION OF 20+ VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED WITH THE FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES, EVENT COORDINATION, AND ENGAGEMENT. - YOUTH ENGAGEMENT WITH SIKYONG PENPA TSERING (DECEMBER 18TH): SIKYONG PENPA TSERING, THE POLITICAL LEADER OF THE CENTRAL TIBETAN ADMINISTRATION, ENGAGED WITH OUR YOUTH ON INITIATIVES TO ADVANCE THE TIBETAN FREEDOM MOVEMENT, EMPOWERING THEM WITH KNOWLEDGE ON ACTIVITIES SUPPORTING TIBETAN CULTURE AND ADVOCACY. OVER 20 VOLUNTEERS ASSISTED WITH THE EVENT, HELPING WITH LOGISTICS AND PROVIDING SUPPORT DURING THE SPEECH. IMPACT THESE EVENTS ENGAGED OVER 300 COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND WERE SUPPORTED BY MORE THAN 80 VOLUNTEERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WITH MANY VOLUNTEERS PARTICIPATING IN MULTIPLE EVENTS. OUR PROGRAMS AND EVENTS FOSTERED A STRONG SENSE OF CULTURAL PRIDE, UNITY, AND AWARENESS OF TIBETAN ISSUES, BOTH LOCALLY AND NATIONALLY. THROUGH OUR EFFORTS, WE SUCCESSFULLY RAISED THE PROFILE OF TIBETAN CULTURE AND CONTRIBUTED TO THE ONGOING ADVOCACY FOR TIBET'S RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS. |
