1 In early May 2024 we applied for a grant from the Yellow Dog Community Conservation Foundation YDCCF.org. The grant was awarded for our trout conservation program in The Sierra Madre Occidental in NW Mexico. We are currently working on the novel Yaqui trout progressing from the initial stage to being about 50% complete in naming this trout as a new individual among the southernmost trout in North America. We believe that with all genetic information and morphological measurements already done by now the final approval will be by the end of second quarter of 2026. The trouts in NW Mexico are endemic trouts with its own peculiar distinctions quite different of those found in North American rivers and streams. We as a group are exited that this trouts finally will have a name in the scientific community. 3,000
2 The next trout to be surveyed is the Conchos trout in Chihuahua State in the North Part of Mexico it is a close related trout to the Yaqui trout but is clearly different in color and appearance. We believe is a different species. This research will be starting sometime in 2026. 0
