PURPLE Women Inc. is a newly established nonprofit. We were under the impression that we were classified as a public charity and only recently became aware that we were designated as a private foundation. Upon learning of this we began researching the reclassification process and attempted to raise the necessary funds to file Form 8940 and correct our status. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in those fundraising efforts and delayed filing while seeking clarity on the correct procedure. As soon as we understood the requirement to file Form 990-PF we began completing it immediately.
