What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? THE MISSION OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS INTERNATIONAL REGION IS TO PROVIDE A COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP PLATFORM TO EMPOWER MEMBERS AND ENCOURAGE GLOBAL SUCCESS THROUGH BEST PRACTICE, INNOVATIVE THINKING AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE.

28 AIA INTERNATIONAL IS THE BROADEST GEOGRAPHICAL COMPONENT OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS, PROVIDING A COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP PLATFORM TO EMPOWER MEMBERS AND ENCOURAGE GLOBAL SUCCESS THROUGH BEST PRACTICE, INNOVATIVE THINKING, AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE. AIA INTERNATIONAL EXISTS TO DIRECTLY SUPPORT MORE THAN 3000 AIA MEMBERS LIVING AND WORKING IN MORE THAN 100 COUNTRIES OUTSIDE OF THE USA, AND TO DEVELOP A GLOBALLY SUPPORTIVE NETWORK FOR THE 100,000-MEMBER STRONG INSTITUTE.IN 2024, THE AIA INTERNATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS HELD MONTHLY MEETINGS AS REQUIRED BY ITS BYLAWS TO ENSURE PROPER GOVERNANCE OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE BOARD HELD ITS ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS AS A VIRTUAL EVENT ON 3 JULY 2024, ENCOMPASSING ACCOMPLISHMENTS, PROJECTED FUTURE GOALS, THE FINANCIAL STATE OF THE ORGANIZATION, NOTIFICATION OF CHANGES TO THE BYLAWS AND RATIFICATION OF THE BOARD OFFICERS FOR 2025-2026.ON MARCH 14-16, WE HELD OUR FOURTH ANNUAL SPRING CONFERENCE ONLINE ON THE THEME OF 'DECARBONIZING CONSTRUCTION: FROM MATERIAL PRODUCTION TO PRESERVATIVE ADAPTIVE REUSE'. THIS WELL-ATTENDED EVENT PROVIDED EXTENSIVE CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES AT 24 HOURS OF CONTENT AND SHOWCASED BEST PRACTICES AND THOUGHT LEADERSHIP FROM AROUND THE WORLD. SEPARATELY, AIA INTERNATIONAL DELIVERED OR SUPPORTED OVER 60 VIRTUAL EVENTS DURING THE YEAR AND CONTINUED TO BUILD A CENTRALIZED REPOSITORY FOR ONLINE EVENTS, MANY OF WHICH INCLUDED CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION LEARNING UNITS AVAILABLE ON AN ON-DEMAND BASIS.AIA INTERNATIONAL HELD ITS AIA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2024 IN HONG KONG, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE AIA HONG KONG CHAPTER, ON 23-27 OCTOBER 2024. THIS MARKED THE FIRST TIME THIS EVENT HAS BEEN HELD IN HONG KONG AND TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT THE CITY'S VIBRANT AND INNOVATIVE ARCHITECTURAL SCENE. THIS CONFERENCE PROVIDED MORE PROFESSIONAL CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES, WITH OVER 40 HOURS OF DIFFERENT LECTURES AND TALKS AVAILABLE. IT WAS A KEY GATHERING FOR THE GLOBAL AIA MEMBER COMMUNITY, WHILE ALSO ATTRACTING LOCAL STUDENT AND ARCHITECT ATTENDEES.THROUGHOUT 2024, AIA INTERNATIONAL COORDINATED EVENTS WITH ITS SEVEN LOCAL CHAPTERS (UNITED KINGDOM, CONTINENTAL EUROPE, HONG KONG, SHANGHAI, JAPAN, MIDDLE EAST AND CANADA), AS WELL AS CONTINUING TO GROW THE NETWORK OF COUNTRY AND REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES BEYOND THE CATCHMENT AREA OF THE ESTABLISHED CHAPTERS. IN ORDER TO BETTER SERVE AND REPRESENT OUR MEMBERS, AND AS A STEP TOWARDS FORMING MORE INTERNATIONAL CHAPTERS, WE LAUNCHED TWO MORE SECTIONS - AIA LATIN AMERICA AND AIA SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA -TO JOIN THE FIRST GROUP OF AIA SOUTHEAST ASIA, AIA SOUTH KOREA AND AIA TAIPEI, MAKING 5 IN TOTAL. FURTHER, THE EMERGING PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE RAN ITS LATEST GLOBAL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM, WHICH BROUGHT TOGETHER MENTORS AND MENTEES AROUND THE WORLD FOR INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT, AS WELL AS HOSTING REGULAR GROUP EVENTS.2024 MARKED THE 11TH YEAR OF THE PRESTIGIOUS AIA INTERNATIONAL DESIGN AWARDS, CELEBRATING THE INNOVATIVE THINKING AND DESIGN EXCELLENCE OF AIA MEMBERS' PROJECTS WORLDWIDE. THE PROGRAM CONTINUED TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND INCLUSIVE DESIGN THROUGH TWO DEDICATED ADDITIONAL AWARDS. WE RECEIVED A RECORD-BREAKING NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD, FROM CANADA TO MALAYSIA.AIA INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATED IN THE AIA CONFERENCE ON ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN 2024 IN WASHINGTON DC ON JUNE 5-8, 2024. WE HOSTED A RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE THE GLOBAL SECTIONS AND DESIGN AWARD WINNERS, AS WELL AS AN AIA INTERNATIONAL MEETUP AT THE AIA LOUNGE, TO ENABLE MEMBERS TO CONNECT IN-PERSON WITH OUR LEADERSHIP.FINALLY, OUR REPRESENTATIVES CONTRIBUTED TO MULTIPLE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE EVENTS, SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL AND TRADE ORGANIZATIONS IN BRAZIL, ECUADOR AND THE UAE AMONG OTHERS.
