COMMUNITIES REACHED: LOUGOU, RAYMOND, MARC, DIVEZEN, PIKO, GUILLAUME, GRANDOU, NAVA, MAWOTY. COMMUNITY WOMEN-LED MICROCREDIT BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS IN A COMMUNITY TAKES PATIENCE, GOOD LEADERSHIP, AND TRUST. WHILE MANY LOCAL VENTURES HAVE STRUGGLED DUE TO POOR MANAGEMENT AND UNPAID LOANS, MOFADEL HAS REMAINED STRONG FOR 15 YEARS, PROUDLY SUPPORTING THE LOUGOU COMMUNITY. DESPITE THE COLLAPSE OF SIMILAR INITIATIVES IN NEARBY AREAS LIKE MAWOTY AND BALIZE, MOFADEL CONTINUES TO GROW, NOW SERVING AS A FINANCIAL REFUGE FOR OTHERS THANKS TO THE ONGOING SUPPORT OF FONDATION COFHED HATI AND ITS PARTNERS. THE COMMUNITY-MANAGED MUTUAL FUND REPORTS A 95% REPAYMENT RATE. MOFADEL MEMBERSHIP HAS INCREASED TO 645 MEMBERS (363 WOMEN, 245 MEN AND 37 COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS). AGRICULTURAL LOANS ARE MORE THAN 50% OF TOTAL LOAN ACTIVITIES, ALIGNING WITH THE LOCAL ECONOMYSHOWING THAT MOFADEL'S LENDING ALIGNS WELL WITH COMMUNITY LIVELIHOOD STRATEGIES. THE DONOR-SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE LOAN PROGRAM SERVED 98 WOMEN IN 10 COMMUNITIES. THE AGRICULTURAL LOAN PROGRAM HAS HELPED FAMILIES RESUME FARMING, IMPROVE FOOD SECURITY, AND GENERATE INCOME FOR EDUCATION, EVEN AFTER SETBACKS LIKE HURRICANE MATTHEW. LIVESTOCK REPLACEMENT FOR YEARS, COFHED HAS BEEN ENHANCING LIVESTOCK AND FARMING, WHICH COMMUNITIES VALUE AS A SIGNIFICANT FORM OF WEALTH. COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE MAKING LIVESTOCK AND AGRICULTURE A PRIORITY, SINCE THESE ACTIVITIES HELP THEM FEED THEIR FAMILIES, AFFORD HOSPITAL CARE, AND PAY FOR THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION. THE BENEFICIARIES' TESTIMONIES HIGHLIGHT THEIR DEEP APPRECIATION FOR THE SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC BENEFITS THAT HAVE ENHANCED THE PROSPERITY OF THEIR COMMUNITIES. LIVESTOCK PURCHASED AND DISTRIBUTED A TOTAL OF 128 ANIMALS (73 GOATS, 50 SHEEP, AND 5 COWS) WERE PURCHASED FOR DISTRIBUTION TO FAMILIES IN OUR PARTNER COMMUNITIES. UNFORTUNATELY, ONE ANIMAL DIED ON THE DAY OF DISTRIBUTION, SO 127 ANIMALS WERE SUCCESSFULLY DISTRIBUTED ACROSS THIRTEEN (13) COMMUNITIES. YOUTH CLUB IN LOUGOU AND RAYMOND IN 2024, THE YOUTH CLUBS IN LOUGOU AND RAYMOND CONTINUED THEIR MISSION TO EMPOWER YOUNG GIRLS THROUGH PERSONAL GROWTH, EDUCATION, AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT. DESPITE LIMITED RESOURCES, A TOTAL OF 34 SESSIONS (18 IN LOUGOU AND 16 IN RAYMOND) WERE HELD, FOCUSING ON SELF-ESTEEM, EMOTIONAL HEALTH, MENSTRUAL HYGIENE, SEXUALITY EDUCATION, AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE. THE GIRLS ALSO EXPLORED IMPORTANT LIFE VALUES, SUCH AS STAYING IN SCHOOL AND AVOIDING EARLY PREGNANCY, ALONGSIDE MOMENTS OF SPIRITUAL REFLECTION. WHILE LOUGOU WAS UNABLE TO OFFER CRAFT SESSIONS DUE TO FUNDING CONSTRAINTS, RAYMOND'S YOUTH CLUB BENEFITED FROM SCHOOL-PROVIDED MATERIALS, ALLOWING GIRLS TO EXPRESS THEIR CREATIVITY THROUGH FLOWER-MAKING, CARD DESIGN, AND APPLIQUES. CHRISTMAS AND EASTER BASKETS THIS PAST HOLIDAY SEASON, THANKS TO YOU, FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS FACING HARDSHIP WERE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE JOY AND SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS. WE DISTRIBUTED A GIFT BASKET FOR CHRISTMAS TO 477 FAMILIES IN 14 COMMUNITIES. EACH BASKET CONTAINED OIL, SUGAR, RICE, TOMATO PASTE, BUTTER, SPAGHETTI, SPICES, SALMON, AS WELL AS LAUNDRY AND BODY SOAPS. MOST ITEMS WERE PROVIDED IN A BRAND-NEW PLASTIC BASKET OR A GROCERY ZIPPER BAG. MANY FAMILIES LOST THEIR CROPS DUE TO A RECENT DROUGHT, LEADING TO FOOD SHORTAGES ACROSS THE COMMUNITIES. THIS HAS FURTHER DEEPENED THE VULNERABILITY OF ALREADY STRUGGLING HOUSEHOLDS. WE DISTRIBUTED A BASKET OF FOOD TO 345 FAMILIES FOR EASTER IN 13 COMMUNITIES. EACH BASKET CONTAINED 5 LBS. OF RICE, 5 LBS. OF CORN GRITS, 5 LBS. OF PINTO BEANS, 5 LBS. OF SUGAR, 1 CAN OF TOMATO PASTE, 1 CAN OF SALMON, 1 TUB OF BUTTER AND 1 QUART OF COOKING OIL. THE BASKETS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO THE MOST VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN EACH COMMUNITY, PROVIDING MUCH-NEEDED RELIEF DURING THIS PERIOD OF FOOD INSECURITY. |
