What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? PSARA is a grassroots organization whose purpose is to educate retirees, those approaching retirement age, their families and community about issues important to retirees and how to use their democratic rights to achieve justice, equal rights and dignity for retired workers, their families and all Americans. PSARA's education programs include preservation of pensions, long term care, affordable health care, access to affordable housing, transportation and other services.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Supported leveling the playing field between Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage so that Medicare beneficiaries have a financially viable choice between these programs. Raised concerns that the current practices of private Medicare Advantage insurers are causing serious inequities within the Medicare system, and harming the health and well-being of senior citizens and people with disabilities. PSARA developed a 63 page "Level the Playing Field" primer which was posted on our website and over 300 booklets were mailed to political, labor, healthcare advocacy and other organizations, congressional representatives, reporters and others. PSARA also hosted two webinars with presentations by national leaders for about 250 participants. Also initiated a sign-on letter to the Administration to level the Playing Field which was signed by 71 organizations and 615 individuals

29 Worked with allies to pass state legislation that: (1) bans excessive billing for ambulance services, (2) strengthens the WA Cares long-term care program by allowing benefits for people who move out of state and prohibiting discrimination, (3) ensures people can use paid sick leave to care for an expansive range of family members, (4) speeds access to Paid Family and Medical Leave benefits, (5) extends protections of the Equal Pay and Opportunity Act and (6) protects grocery workers following corporate mergers. Developed a Legislative Agenda and a dedicated section on our PSARA.org website focused on our legislative work and educating our members. Held a Legislative Conference and conducted training on how to successfully advocate with state legislators. We held a virtual lobby day with 30 PSARA members across the state and their legislators. Supported more than 40 bills by contacting legislators and signing in to support bills as an organization and coordinating with members to do the same. Shared information about state-wide ballot initiatives at community events and hosting a webinar. Members also participated in several rallies on the capitol steps and provided oral and written testimony in some cases.

30 Built community solidarity and activism for our issues by hosting two Zoom and four in-person events including our fifth annual Juneteenth celebration event. These events included about 500 total participants (in addition to events in the two programs described above). PSARA kicked off a Pierce County organizing campaign with an event on Strengthening Social Security and Medicare for Ourselves and Future Generations which was co-sponsored by multiple local organizations. The Pierce County committee hosts monthly in-person organizing meetings. In addition we supported more than seven events hosted by other organizations including carrying our PSARA banner at the M.L.King Day March & Rally and the Seattle Pride Parade.
