What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Sun City Tailgaters is a social club organized for the pleasure and recreation of the residents of Sun City Carolina Lakes (SCCL) and their guests. The club members have a common interest in food preparation and service to and for the SCCL residents. The club members volunteer without pay to prepare and serve food for residents to enjoy and fellowship over food. The club hosts about 100 events a year for various subgroups within the SCCL community.

Our club has filed the 990N postcard form in past years, but we had to switch to the 990EZ form for 2023 filing since our income for 2023 bumped us out of the 990N range. I did not remember any mention of a potential penalty for late filing in the 990N form/instructions that we used for 2022 and prior. I did not know there was a possibility of a penalty until starting this new-to-us 990EZ form. We are filing the 2023 form now, and ask for your forgiveness of a penalty for it. We are in the process of finalizing the 990EZ form for 2024 and will submit it by March 12, so it and future filings will be on time. Thank you for your understanding.
