What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? To serve the needs and improve the lives of veterans and deployed active-duty personnel and their families as well as to inspire the youth of our community through programs to develop good citizenship such as Boys and Girls State programs and Flag Respect and Education. We provide avenues for veterans to utilize the services that other organizations offer such as social activities for veterans publishing our newsletter providing financial and other assistance and information on benefits available to them.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Boys and Girls State. The American Legion Boys State of New York Inc. which is sponsored by the American Legion Department of New York is a citizenship training program designed to meet your needs and to give you an insight into our democratic form of government. We provide the funding to send over 20 local High School Juniors each year for this intensive one week program.

29 Operation Enduring Care. A program to provide in-kind donations of food clothing and comfort items to residents of Beacon House Homeless Residence at Northport VA Medical Center. We also provide personal care and hygiene items to patients in Nursing Home Hospice and Rehabilitation Units. We involve local schools scouting units and other institutions in the collection of needed items.

30 American Legion Riders. Our Riders chapter provides honors to deceased local veterans at funeral homes and interments. They also conduct an annual Turkey Run bringing turkey dinners fixings and camaraderie to local veterans during the holiday season.
