With expenses totaling $10,549, the event netted $44,339 in support of the Institute's mission. Approximately 149 guests attended. As in previous years, these funds directly supported our summer research program, which awarded $113,584 in research stipends to college students and faculty mentors. During the summer of 2024, 15 students conducted six research projects, a water quality researcher monitored area lakes, and 10 art and writing fellows completed a five-week residency, deepening their creative practices through connection with the natural world. All funds were expended in alignment with the event's purpose.

The gross income was $5,244 which was raised through event sponsorships, registration fees, and donations. Expenses were $1,554. Funds earned were spent to support the Institute's general operating efforts, including community education, stewardship efforts, and staff development. All funds were spent.

HASTINGS,MI49058 		2024-06-06 12,000 CLIMATE RESILIENT LAND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM 12,000 NO 05/02/2025 2025-05-02 Climate Resilient Land Management (CRLM) is a growing initiative at the Institute, engaging staff, volunteers, and students in long-term strategies to strengthen the health and resiliency of our 850-acre preserve in the face of climate change. The initiative combines on-the-ground stewardship with community education, aiming to create a replicable model of climate resilience that others can apply to their own land. In 2024, staff logged 308 hours of planning and coordination time, while an additional 495+ hours of direct climate resilience work-including invasive species removal, native seed collection and planting, and propagation-were completed by community volunteers and Biological Field Station students. Funding from this effort supported the hiring of a part-time stewardship coordinator, who led much of the fieldwork. Stewardship Manager Mary Parr also played a central role. Total donations for the CRLM initiative in 2024 reached $23,000, including $16,000 in private contributions

Funds raised supported a range of science and environmental education experiences for K-12 students and professional development for educators. During the 2023-2024 school year, the Institute delivered 219 education programs, reaching 7,194 Pre-K through 5th grade student contacts through both classroom visits and field trips. Educators engaged in one book-study program and attended two in-person workshops, and the Institute's science lending library continued to be a valued resource throughout the year. All funds were fully expended in support of these educational initiatives.

FUNDS EARNED WERE SPENT TO SUPPORT THE INSTITUTE'S GENERAL OPERATING EFFORTS, INCLUDING COMMUNITY EDUCATION, STEWARDSHIP EFFORTS, AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT. ALL FUNDS WERE SPENT.

IT IS A WORK PLAN FOR THE LONG-TERM HEALTH AND RESILIENCY OF THE INSTITUTE'S NATURAL AREAS IN RESPONSE TO THE THREATS POSED BY CLIMATE CHANGE. THROUGH HANDS-ON LAND MANAGEMENT ON THE INSTITUTE'S 850 ACRES, THE INSTITUTE IS CREATING A PLAN FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCY TO SHARE WITH OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS SO THEY CAN BUILD CLIMATE RESILIENCY ON THEIR PROPERTY. APPROXIMATELY 125 HOURS WERE TRACKED BY STAFF JUST ON MEETINGS AND OFFICE WORK. THE FUNDS SECURED FOR THIS EFFORT ALLOWED THE INSTITUTE TO HIRE A PART-TIME STEWARDSHIP COORDINATOR WHO DID MUCH OF THE ON=SITE LAND MANAGEMENT WORK. STEWARDSHIP MANAGER MARY PARR WAS ALSO VERY INVOLVED WITH THIS EFFORT. TOTAL DONATIONS RECEIVED WERE $25,000 FOR 2023, WHILE TOTAL TRACKED EXPENSES FOR THIS PROJECT WERE $77,289. ALL FUNDS WERE SPENT.

THE FUNDS RAISED ARE USED FOR SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR K-12 STUDENTS, PREOFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS, AND FIELD TRIPS TO THE INSTITUTE. DURING 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR, 205 DAYCARE PROGRAMS WERE PROVIDED, THERE WERE 5,671 PRE-K THORUGH 5TH GRADE STUDENT CONTACTS BOTH IN THE CLASSROOM AND DURING FIELD TRIPS, AND TEACHERS PARTICIPATED IN 2 BOOK-STUDY PROGRAMS. TEACHERS UTILIZED THE INSTITUTE'S SCIENCE LENDING LIBRARY AND DIGITAL TEACHER TRAINING HUB REGULARLY. TOTAL FUNDS EXPENDED ON THIS PROGRAM FOR THE 2023 FINANCIAL YEAR WERE $60,027. ALL FUNDS WERE SPENT.
