Effective July 1, 2024, United Way will take over SAFE and it will no longer be known as the Special Assistance Fund for Energy, but now the Special Assistance Fund for Emergencies or SAFE, administered by United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra. The decision for the Special Assistance Fund for Emergencies (SAFE) was made to expand utility bill assistance beyond energy only, but rather to provide support for financial hardship for all utility bills.
