What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? ABCA will grow a robust cooperative economy of human-centered democratic workplaces housing and marketplaces in Austin & Central Texas by developing democratic skills and cooperative leaders; growing awareness of the cooperative business model with individuals like-minded organizations and local government; nurturing new cooperatives and converting existing businesses to cooperatives; enhancing community quality of life through businesses practices that are inclusive equitable and accessible.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 ACBA grows and strengthens the cooperative economy in central Texas through technical assistance member support and advocacy. In 2024 ACBA supported the development of a consumer owned cooperative grocery store as the stakeholders democratically decided all elements of the business plan recruited 300 members and elected a board of six. ACBA also supported several co-op business clients with developing their operations and financial plans. ACBA completed over 100 hours of coaching support for co-op business clients. Additionally ACBA hosted the second annual Co-opportunity Fair to create a space where member cooperatives can connect with the public and recruit employees members and clients. To complete these activities ACBA maintained partnerships with aligned organizations and the City economic development department. ACBA updated membership of activities at the annual membership meeting.
