What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The DLGBTA is the primary Bar Association in Dallas that advocates for the Dallas LGBT Community whether it is to the Dallas Bar Association or otherwise. The organization advocates for the interests of LGBTQ attorneys and LGBTQ individuals.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Continuing Legal Education Events CLEs. CLEs generally are educational classes approved by the State Bar of Texas that are intended for lawyers. CLEs are put on my professionals that work in the particular area of law being presented on and teach the audience updates on the relevant part of the law tips for how to handle issues related to that area of law the people and or organizations that the area of law affects legislation that could be changing or that has been proposed on that area of law and other aspects of working in that area of law. CLE is intended for attorneys and judges but members of the public are welcome too.

To Whom It May Concern: I serve as treasurer of our organization and I respectfully request abatement of any penalties associated with our late filing of Form 990 for tax year 2022 and 2023. Our organization was granted 501c6 status on July 22 2022. As a newly exempt volunteer-run nonprofit we misunderstood the filing obligations for newly recognized non-profit organizations. We also incorrectly believed filing was based on our net income not gross receipts. Once we became aware of the error we acted promptly to prepare and file the required returns for 2022 and 2023. We also proactively filed our 2024 return early to demonstrate our commitment to compliance. This was an honest mistake made in good faith and not the result of willful neglect. We have implemented internal procedures to ensure timely filings going forward. We respectfully ask the IRS to waive any penalties under the reasonable cause exception.
