Briefly describe the organization’s mission: The Japanese American Veterans Association (JAVA) is a nationwide war veterans organization. We are dedicated to representing the interests and preserving the military lineage of all American veterans, reservists, and active-duty personnel including Asian American and Pacific Islander veterans. We work to honor and preserve the memory of those who valiantly served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and Military Intelligence Service while also fostering patriotism and inclusion today. JAVA builds and strengthens camaraderie among members through luncheons, events, and a newsletter. We also conduct educational programs, give speeches, and organize discussion panels to emphasize the contributions of Japanese American War Veterans. Finally, we provide scholarships to descendants, dependents and members of 100th Infantry Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service, and JAVA members.

	Scholarships: Providing financial scholarships to deserving descendants, dependents and members of the 100th Infantry Battalion/442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service, and JAVA members. The JAVA Scholarship Program announcement is posted on the JAVA website and in the JAVA newsletter. The announcement is also sent to other organizations in a press release. The Scholarship Committee reviews applications and selects recipients; scholarships are awarded in July.

	Central to JAVA's mission is the sponsorship of historical and educational programs that document the contributions of Japanese American Veterans, especially the Nisei in WWII. JAVA participated in the following programs from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024: Day of Affirmation (D0A) Wreath Ceremony at the National WWII Memorial (Floral Wreath, NPS Permit, and a full page ad in Rafu Shimpo Newspaper) with a cost of $3,107.67. The DOA Wreath Ceremony permitted both in-person and virtual attendance and reached over 265 individuals. JAVA hosted a special event dinner to celebrate the Day of Affirmation at the National Museum of the U.S. Army on July 16. Continuing in FY 2023 was JAVA's The Go For Broke photo exhibit opened on October, 2023, and ran until December 14, 2023. The exhibit, which was free and open to the public was held at the Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC) and introduced viewers to the experience of the WWII Nisei soldiers' experience. Almost 400 visitors attended the exhibit during June and July with an expense of $5373.62 in October 2023. JAVA was a participant in the 18th Annual Nisei Soldiers Memorial Service at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl on Sunday, September 27, 2023. Approximately 150 people attended the program and JAVA's wreath expense was $343.72. For JAVA's Veterans Day program, Major Michael H. Yamamoto, USA, at the annual program held at the National Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism in WWII in Washington, DC. The program allowed for both in-person and virtual participation and reached over 375 people with an expense of $735.95. The Memorial Day Program at Arlington National Cemetery allowed for both in-person and virtual attendance. Additionally, JAVA participated in a Memorial Day Service at the Punchbowl in HI. The combined cost of the programs was $317.62 and in total reached over 650 people. Finally, each month JAVA sends out a newsletter, the e-Advocate, to educate and inform over 1,000 members and contacts about current and historical military and cultural news and events.

	Financial Support: JAVA works to encourage patriotism and national pride among the younger generation as well as works to foster and maintain liaisons with other Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) as well as institutions to educate the public about Nisei and Americans of Japanese Ancestry in WWII through donations. This year, JAVA co-sponsored with the National Japanese American Memorial Foundation (NJAMF) the Freedom Walk during the National Cherry Blossom Festival on April 6, 2024. JAVA also supported the Defining Courage Program, which was a documentary detailing the Nisei soldiers' journey in WWII across Europe. It played on November 11, 2023. JAVA also donated in support of the Maui Wildfires in October of 2023. JAVA also supported the Japanese American Citizen's League in the publishing of a graphic novel meant for school children in learning about the Japanese American experience during WWII.

Form 990, Part III, Line 2	On July 16, 2023, JAVA hosted a lunch at the Army and Navy Club to celebrate the Day of Affirmation. The luncheon featured a keynote speaker who spoke of the newly discovered murals at the former Fort Ritchie that Nisei soldiers painted during their time at the camp. The speaker spoke of the history of the camp and the soldiers there along with photos of the murals that were in surprisingly great condition after nearly a century of neglect. Additionally, from October 15, 2023, to December 14, 2023, JAVA and the Japan Information & Culture Center (JICC) sponsored a photo exhibit, The Go For Broke Spirit, featuring images of Japanese American veterans who served during World War II by Shane Sato, a photographer based in Los Angeles, CA. Sato's images of aged veterans in uniform with descriptive placards told the story of the Nisei soldiers, many of whom were unjustly imprisoned in wartime incarceration camps when they volunteered to fight. The exhibit was free and open to the public. On October 15, speaker Eric Saul shared stories of WWII soldiers and events that he had learned during his time as a historian as an opening for the exhibit.
Form 990, Part III, Line 4d	OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: JAVA sponsors regular luncheons to promote fellowship and educate members, friends, and guests on important historical and military issues. JAVA held a July luncheon on July 16th, 2023, with approximately 40 attendees. JAVA also held a virtual membership meeting on February 10, 2024, which allowed JAVA members from around the nation to participate.

The Form 990 is discussed virtually over email or by phone and is approved during the Quarterly Executive Committee meeting or in an online vote.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c	Potential conflicts of interest are required to be disclosed during the vetting of a potential board member, prior to appointment, and during the course of service. The Contract Administrator/ Executive Director is also required to notify the JAVA President and Executive Committee of any conflicts of interest prior to and during employment.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15a	JAVA's elected officials and Executive Committee Members are all volunteers. The only employee is a Contract Administrator/Executive Director. The Contract Administrator/Executive Director is paid a rate of $45.00 an hour. The rate was determined by consulting the wages paid to similar area support personnel.
