28 For 2025, the Richmond CPCU Society Chapter continued its mission of providing resources, educational programming, and leadership opportunities that attract talent and enable individuals to expand their technical insurance skills, business capabilities, and ethical leadership within the insurance industry. The Richmond CPCU Society Chapter serves individuals who hold or are pursuing the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, which is conferred by The Institutes and requires passing rigorous exams, meeting an experience requirement, and adhering to a strict code of professional ethics. This year, the Chapter featured a variety of educational and professional development programs. Knowledge events included an April 2025 webinar, Highwater, Higher Stakes: Insurance Realities from Asheville Residents, presented by Derek Lynch, which focused on the Asheville flooding event, the causes and limitations of available insurance coverage, and the recovery challenges faced by residents. In October 2025, the Chapter supported Crazy Claims, presented at the Virginia RIMS Conference by Chapter President Tredessa Travers, Charity Grzelecki, and Shawn Little, which highlighted unusual and complex insurance claims and the related lessons in policy interpretation, training, fraud awareness, and risk management. The Chapter also offered CPCU continuing education credit for its December webinar, Inclusion in Action: Cultivating an Inclusive Mindset for Workplace Impact, presented by Britani Jones of The Hanover Insurance Group. Ethics and diversity remained important areas of focus for the Chapter in 2025. In March 2025, Richmond CPCU hosted a virtual ethics session featuring Phyllis Davis, author of Navigating Virtue: Ethics and Etiquette in the American Business Landscape, which focused on ethical interactions and workplace etiquette. The Chapter also submitted a proposal to The Institutes in support of Ethics Month. In December 2025, the Chapter collaborated with The Hanover Insurance Group to present a webinar on workplace inclusivity, further supporting diversity and inclusion within the insurance profession. The Chapter also promoted awareness of the CPCU designation and provided outreach to students and insurance professionals. Chapter leaders and members participated in licensing and CPCU-related instruction for local insurance professionals, staffed a vendor table at the Regional GIS Conference, sponsored a VCU GIS student leader to attend In2Risk, and recognized scholarship recipients during the annual golf tournament reception. Chapter leaders also mentored students in risk management and insurance programs at Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University.

29 Leadership development remained a significant focus in 2025. Vice President Chris Townsend attended the In2Leadership conference in Atlanta, Georgia, while President Tredessa Travers and Board Members Derek Lynch and Benjamin Boas attended the In2Risk conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. Chapter leadership also participated in CPCU Society volunteer leader webinars and regional leadership meetings. At the Society level, Tredessa Travers served as Vice Chair of the CPCU Insights Publications Committee in 2025 and was selected to serve as Chair in 2026. Board Member Heather MacIver participated as a friend of the National IDEA Committee, and Benjamin Boas was accepted to begin service on the Publications Committee in 2026. The Chapter also continued its efforts in recruitment and retention through outreach to new designees, Pathways members, students, retirees, and lapsed members, as well as through a member satisfaction survey conducted in September 2025. For 2025, the Chapter reported a member retention rate of 83%, a new designee recruitment rate of 50%, Pathways membership of 9%, and total chapter membership of 126. Community engagement and volunteer service remained an important part of the Chapters activities in 2025. In January 2025, members volunteered with Celebrate RVA to assemble birthday celebration packages for school-aged children. In April, the Chapter participated in an Earth Day cleanup at Pocahontas Park and supported a community Easter Egg Hunt. In November 2025, Board members prepared dinner for residents at the Ronald McDonald House. In December 2025, the Chapters holiday party included donations for Toys for Tots. The Chapter also recognized Janet Buchanan at the 2025 Annual Holiday Party for her 20 years of service to the Richmond Chapter.

These events included the 3rd Annual Ice Cream Social in July, a Meet the Board event at Bingo Beer in February, a happy hour with the Alumni VCU GIS Chapter at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and a holiday event at The Hermitage Club in Richmond. The Chapter also maintained an active online presence through its website and LinkedIn, sharing event updates, scholarship information, board leadership announcements, and other news relevant to members and prospective members.
