What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The organization is a welcoming and inclusive organization dedicated to advancing the skills of fund-raising professionals from the Commonwealth of Virginia through education, training, and networking opportunities.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 VAFRE holds monthly meetings with educational sessions to further the professional development of the membership and the greater Virginia nonprofit community. Since the pandemic we have continued to offer hybrid in-person/virtual sessions, which has allowed the group to reach beyond the Richmond metropolitan area a bit more. All of the programs are recorded and posted on the members-only page for the members to view on-demand and share with their colleagues.

29 VAFRE holds an Annual Awards Program honoring excellence in Development in May. Two awards have been given each year for more than 10 years: The Nina Abady Award, presented to a fundraising professional who has demonstrated the utmost excellence in the field of development; and The Rising Star Award, made annually to a Development professional who exhibits excellent potential and has demonstrated remarkable talents at an early stage in their fundraising careers (between 3 and 10 years). The field of candidates includes VAFRE members as well as members of the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals - allowing a more inclusive look at those in the Development profession. This year there were three additional awards added: The Innovation in Fundraising Award (recognizing a development professional, consultant or team who demonstrates outstanding accomplishment in fundraising strategy in the previous year); the Leadership in Philanthropy Award (recognizing a development professional, consultant or team who demonstrated a commitment to the future and sustainability of the profession in the prvious year); and the Nonprofit Excellence in Philanthropy Award (recognizing a nonprofit for extraordinary accomplishments in fundraising in the previous year).

30 The organization provided dues scholarships to reduce financial barriers to membership and increase access to professional development resources for fundraising professionals: ensuring equitable access to education, resources, and professional networks within the fundraising sector. Scholarships supported individuals from under-resourced nonprofits and historically underrepresented communities, enabling participation in educational programs, networking opportunities, and industry best practices. As a result, the program expanded equitable access to training and peer engagement, strengthened the capacity of fundraising professionals to raise funds ethically and effectively, and fostered a more diverse and inclusive membership base. These efforts directly support the organization's exempt purpose of advancing ethical and effective philanthropy through education, professional development, and community building.
