What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? NSA Carolinas is a chapter of the National Speakers Association that exists to advance the professional speaking industry by providing its members, professional speakers based in North Carolina and South Carolina, with education, professional development programming, networking opportunities, mentorship, and a supportive community to grow their speaking businesses.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Program Service 2. Member Retreats and Annual Meeting. The chapter hosted its signature in-person events during the year, including two member retreats, one in October 2025 and one in April 2026, each with approximately 30 attendees and featuring intensive professional development, networking, and community-building programming over multiple days. The chapter also produced its Annual Meeting in June, which included a Friday evening awards banquet with approximately 70 attendees and a Saturday professional development day with approximately 40 attendees. These flagship events represent the chapter's most substantial financial and programmatic investments, providing concentrated opportunities for skill development, peer learning, recognition of member achievements, and professional networking within the speaking industry. Approximate members and guests served: 170 across all four events.

The chapter also hosted monthly Third Wednesday virtual professional development sessions, except July and August, each featuring a guest speaker on a topic relevant to the business of professional speaking, averaging 30 live attendees with recordings made available to all members for ongoing access. In addition, the chapter delivered a virtual six-week Speaker Academy in fall 2025 for 12 enrolled participants, which included a structured curriculum focused on building a speaking business. There were also mentorship opportunities offered through virtual mastermind groups. Quarterly Maximizing Your Membership orientations served 5 to 15 new members per session, with recordings available, and monthly member communications kept the broader membership informed and engaged throughout the year. The chapter also recognized member achievements throughout the year through formal awards programs, including Member of the Year, the Jeanne Robertson Award for Excellence, Rising Star, the President's Award, and a newly established Community Service Award, celebrating contributions to both the chapter and the broader professional speaking community. TY 2025 ReasonableCauseExplanation
Name:
NATIONAL SPEAKERS ASSOICATION
EIN:
74-2422639
Explanation:
This is the first year in which the undersigned has served in the role responsible for the chapter's tax filings, and the undersigned had no prior experience preparing or filing Form 990. In good faith, the chapter relied on a prior officer/third party who had historically handled the organization's financial recordkeeping and filing responsibilities to complete or assist with this year's return. That filing was not completed as expected, and the lapse was not discovered until after the original due date had passed. Compounding the delay, complete financial records were not readily available during the filing window, which prevented timely preparation of an accurate return. Once the issue was identified, the chapter took prompt steps to gather the necessary records, prepare an accurate filing, and submit Form 990 as soon as reasonably possible. The chapter is an all-volunteer organization, and the failure to file on time was not willful or due to neglect. To prevent recurrence, the chapter is implementing improved transition procedures between officers, clearer documentation of filing responsibilities, and earlier coordination with a tax professional in future filing cycles. We respectfully request that the IRS accept this explanation as reasonable cause for the late filing.
