What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Catonsville Kennel Club is an American Kennel Club (AKC) member club that furthers the advancement of all breeds of pure-bred dogs, protects and advances the interests of all breeds of pure-bred dogs and encourages sportsman like competition at all AKC sanctioned events. To that end, the Club conducts sanctioned matches, dogs shows and obedience trials and any other events under the Rules and Regulations of the American Kennel Club. The profit from such events are used to support canine and community causes including purchasing K-9 Officers to the Maryland State Police, contributing to disaster relief for pets, donating to organizations that provide service dogs to veterans, and donating to organizations that provide pet-friendly battered-women shelters.

28 On October 13 and 14, 2023, the Catonsville Kennel Club, Inc. held its Annual All-Breed Dog Shows with entries of 2380 dogs. These shows are AKC sanctioned events, which support the advancement of all breeds of pure-bred dogs. The net proceeds from the Shows enabled the Club to provide $7,400 in donations to 14 different dog-related charities.

Explanation:
As the incoming Treasurer of the Club, I was forwarded a notice from IRS dated August 18, 2025, stating the Club's non-profit status had been automatically revoked due to tax returns not being filed for the past 3 years. Prior to receipt of the notice, I was not aware of this issue. In addition, the Club's electronic accounting files (Quicken) were reportedly lost/corrupted from mid 2021 through 2024 as a result of an unknown issue with the Club laptop. Accounting files have recently been re-created and backed up and the Club is now able to accurately file tax returns for years 2022 thru 2024. Prior to year 2022, the Catonsville Kennel Club has filed returns on time and without issue. The Club has recently had its tax exempt status restored. The Club Board is committed to filing tax returns on time and without incident and we have taken steps to ensure this will not occur again.
