General operating of a VFW post. Members pay dues to National. National then rebates back to post a portion of the dues. Monthly meeting held. Post sponsors programs of VFW Americanism which includes honoring those flying American Flags, placing American Flags on grave sites during Memorial Day Weekend, and marching in local parades carrying the American Flag. Also, attend veterans wakes presenting American Flag.

Part I Line 2 The VFW Organization provides grants to various organizations including Dresden Area Committee. Morris High School Student Organizations sponsored by the High School, Gruddy County, and Immaculate Catholic Church Family Outreach Program. Also some miscellaneous organizations with similar amounts contributed. Also to VFW State and National fund raising projects. For the most part, the grants are to a specific program or need that the organization requested funds for and so no followup monitoring is conducted. The Organizations receiving the grants usually provide a letter of receipt or thank you for contributing to the specific program the funds were applied to.

Return Reference Explanation
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b Review Process Commander and Quartermaster have full responsibility for the filing of Form 990. They therefore review the 990 and answer questions that have been addressed to them by the paid preparer.
Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15b Compensation Determination The Organization does not have a paid CEO. It also does not compensate officers except the Quartermaster, who keeps the accounting records and pays the bills, plus deposits funds. The Organization does not have a key employee as defined by Form 990. The Commander receives expense allowance for incidental expenses and travel to various VFW events throughout Illinois and for veterans visits and costs of items given to hospitalized/ rehab center staying veterans. The Quartermaster is reimbursed up to a maximum amount limit, on a monthy basis for use of his auto for post banking, purchasing, attending VFW events, local and state wide. The Adjudant is reimbursed a small amount for secretary expenses and auto use attending VFW events.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 Documents Available to Public The Organization does make its various governing documents and financial statements available to the public where required by law, state statue, etc. Individuals requesting availability, must contact the Organization office and make arrangements with the Commander or Quartermaster to arrange viewing of the documents or records.
Form 990, Part VIII, Line 1d General support statement regarding raffle operations conducted by another organization using the facility of the VFW. The Organization allows another organization to operate a raffle called Queen of Hearts at their premises. This raffle has drawn wide spread news in the past eight years because of the, rather large pots building at times. The ver large pots occurred in 2017, 2018, and 2019. The other organization is responsible for the tax reporting of the raffle. That organization is JOHN MARTIN STEELE VFW AUXILIARY TO POST 6049. The federal identification mumber is 38-4034629. The responsible party member name on Form SS-4 application, which was filed in April 2017 is Jim Maskel. The other organization John Martin Steele VFW Auxiliary contributed 4,147 to the VFW during fiscal year 2024-2025.
