What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Skyline Soaring is a membership club with the purpose of promoting the sport of flying gliders. The club offers education to all level of air enthusiasts from ab initio students to experienced pilots seeking higher ratings. In 2025 the club initiated 1296 flights of which 755 (58%) were instructional. The club operates two tow planes, two two-place gliders for instruction and use by the membership, and three single-place gliders for pilots that have been approved to fly. The club operates from March to December, starting the flying year off with a mandatory safety meeting for all club members.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Each year, the club hosts an event called the Week of Training (WOT). The purpose of this event is to give students and new members an intensive training opportunity. The club equipment is relocated to the Petersburg, WV airport (W99). The advantage of this facility is that it is a 5000' runway the allows quick turnarounds of operations. During this week, students can expect six to ten flights a day, meaning 30 to 50 in a week. At the club home base, it would take a student 6 months to gain an equivalent amount of seat time. New students can expect to achieve solo status during this week and more advanced members can achieve passing their PPL-G test (practical test).
