What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is a 501(c)(19) organization with a primary purpose to foster camaraderie among U.S. veterans of overseas conflicts, serve veterans, the military, and communities, and advocate on behalf of all veterans. The organization promotes patriotism, assists needy veterans and their families, and perpetuates the memory of deceased veterans.
