General explanation attachment 1 DOG: MANY PEOPLE (COURTHOUSE FACILITY DOGS, CRISIS RESPONSE CANINES AND FACILITY DOGS) COURTHOUSE FACILITY DOGS, CRISIS RESPONSE CANINES AND FACILITY DOGS WORK IN PROFESSIONAL SETTINGS, SUCH AS CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS, COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (CASA) AGENCIES AND WITH JUDICIAL DISTRICTS SPECIAL VICTIM ADVOCATES TO ASSIST CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS THROUGH THE PROCESS AND TRAUMA OF THE JUDICIAL PROCESS. IN FY 2025, ADW PLACED TWO CRISIS RESPONSE CANINES WITH FIELD OFFICES FOR THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION; THREE COURTHOUSE FACILITY DOGS: ONE IN ROSWELL, NM; ONE IN HOBBS, NM; AND ONE IN SANTA CRUZ, CA. ADDITIONALLY, ADW PLACED A FACILITY/PEER SUPPORT DOG IN ALBUQUERQUE, NM. ADW IS PROUD OF THE WORK DONE BY ALL OF OUR FACILITY DOGS AND IS EXCEPTIONALLY PROUD OF THESE TEAMS FOR THE WORK THEY ARE DOING TO PROVIDE HOPE AND RESILIENCE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. GRADUATION 2024 ON OCTOBER 23, 2024, ADW HOSTED ITS ANNUAL GRADUATION EVENT AT THE LENSIC PERFORMING ARTS CENTER IN SANTA FE, NM. THIS MOVING COMMUNITY EVENT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE CLIENTS AND DOGS WHO COMPLETED THEIR TRAINING DURING THE YEAR; AND ALSO IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE THE HARD WORK AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF OUR STAFF, STUDENT TRAINERS AND VOLUNTEERS. GRADUATION 2024 INCLUDED 17 OWNER/SELF-TRAINED TEAMS, FIVE ONE DOG: ONE PERSON TEAMS, AND NINE ONE DOG: MANY PEOPLE TEAMS. THIS WAS ONE OF OUR LARGEST GRADUATING CLASSES TO DATE. STUDENT TRAINING PROGRAMS STUDENT TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO CHILDREN OF ALL ABILITIES FROM AGES 8 TO 18 AND INCLUDE MAINSTREAM AND AT-RISK YOUTH. ADWS PHILOSOPHY OF INCLUSION AND RESPECT RESULTS IN NON-STIGMATIZING PROGRAMS, AND MANY OF OUR STUDENT TRAINERS JOIN BECAUSE WE ARE REGARDED AS A SAFE PLACE FOR LEARNING AND GROWING FOR YOUTH, WHO FIND IT DIFFICULT TO INTEGRATE INTO OTHER PROGRAMS. SOME HIGHLIGHTS FROM OUR FY25 STUDENT TRAINING PROGRAMS INCLUDE: WORK-BASED LEARNING (WBL) STUDENT TRAINING PROGRAM & ADW TAOS: A TAOS STUDENT TRAINER WAS ACCEPTED INTO THE ROCA-NM AND BRIDGES PROJECT FOR EDUCATION IN TAOS INAUGURAL FIRST-GEN SUMMER INSTITUTE, JUNE 18-20, 2025, AT NM HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY. TWO OTHER STUDENT TRAINERS JUST RECEIVED LANL CAREER PATHWAYS SCHOLARSHIPS. THESE STUDENT TRAINERS WERE MADE AWARE OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES BY ADW STAFF, AND WERE SUPPORTED IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS DURING AND AFTER SCHEDULED STUDENT TRAINING PROGRAM HOURS. TWO STUDENT TRAINERS ATTENDED NEW MEXICO SCHOOL FOR THE DEAFS ASL IMMERSION FROM JUNE 10-14, 2025. TUITION AND ASSOCIATED COSTS FOR THEM ATTENDING WERE PAID BY ADW. THESE STUDENTS EXPRESSED INTEREST IN LEARNING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) AND POSSIBLY BECOMING ASL INTERPRETERS, DUE TO THEIR WORK LAST SUMMER WITH NMSD STUDENT TRAINERS WHO CAME TO TAOS TO WORK ON THE SUMMER CREW. ONE KIVA STUDENT TRAINER WAS SIMILARLY SUPPORTED TO ATTEND WEEKLY, EVENING ASL CLASSES WITH THEIR MOTHER AND OLDER SISTER DURING THE SPRING 2025 SEMESTER. WHILE THIS STUDENT UNDERSTANDS ENGLISH VERY WELL, THEY HAVE HAD NO EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE OPTIONS OTHER THAN SHAKING THEIR HEAD YES OR NO. ASL CLASSES HAVE OPENED THE DOOR TO THEIR BEING ABLE TO COMMUNICATE ANOTHER STUDENT TRAINER WAS INTRODUCED TO AN ASSISTIVE READING DEVICE AT ADW. ADW LOANED THE DEVICE TO THE STUDENT, WHO USED IT AT SCHOOL. WE THEN LEARNED THEY HAD BEEN WAITING FOR MORE THAN A YEAR FOR A SIMILAR DEVICE FROM ANOTHER AGENCY, AND THEIR EXPERIENCE AND ADVOCACY WITH US MADE THAT HAPPEN. AFTER SCHOOL & SUMMER CAMP: ADW OFFERS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND SUMMER CAMP FOR YOUTH, WITH OPEN ENROLLMENT IN AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES, FROM SEPTEMBER THROUGH MAY. FOUR WEEK-LONG SUMMER CAMPS WERE OFFERED IN THE MONTHS OF JUNE AND JULY. STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT INCLUSION OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, AND THROUGH WORKING WITH THE DOGS DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS, LEADERSHIP AND EMPATHY. BOTH AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER CAMP REMAIN HIGH IN POPULARITY AMONG LOCAL YOUTH, WITH OUR SUMMER CAMP REACHING CAPACITY WITHIN DAYS OF OPENING REGISTRATION. THE MASTERS PROGRAM: THE MASTERS PROGRAM/ADW TRAINING COURSE PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO LEARN CRITICAL LIFE SKILLS IN A UNIQUE, HANDS-ON SETTING WITHIN A JUDGMENT-FREE ENVIRONMENT. SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL REGULATION, HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING ARE SOME OF THE INSIGHTS TAKEN FROM THE WORK REQUIRED TO BUILD THE SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A SERVICE DOG AND ITS PERSON, AND ARE SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TAKEAWAYS ACQUIRED FROM THIS COURSE. THE WARRIOR CANINE CONNECTION PROGRAMS IN FY25, WE CONTINUED OUR WARRIOR CANINE CONNECTION PROGRAMS IN ALBUQUERQUE, NM, AND AT OUR HEADQUARTERS IN SANTA FE. THE PROGRAM ENGAGES SERVICE MEMBERS WITH POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD), TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI), AND OTHER CHALLENGES, IN TRAINING SERVICE DOGS TO BE PLACED WITH OTHER VETERANS WITH DISABILITIES. THE PROGRAM IS EFFECTIVE IN HELPING VETERANS REINTEGRATE INTO CIVILIAN LIFE AND IS CONSIDERED AN EFFECTIVE NON-PHARMACEUTICAL APPROACH TO MEDIATING COMBAT INJURIES. OUR WCC PROGRAM BEGAN IN 2014 IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VETERANS COURT, SERVING JUSTICE-INVOLVED VETERANS; WE HAVE NOW OPENED THE PROGRAMS TO INCLUDE ALL VETERANS, WHETHER JUSTICE-INVOLVED OR NOT. TO DATE, MORE THAN 200 VETERANS HAVE BEEN SERVED BY OUR WCC PROGRAM. IN THE SUMMER OF 2023, ADW WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION IN ALBUQUERQUE. THIS PARTNERSHIP ALLOWED ADW TO ENGAGE WITH POPULATIONS, WHO ARE RECEIVING INPATIENT SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CARE FROM THE VA, WITH THE SUPPORT OF PSYCHOLOGISTS AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS, WHO ARE PART OF THE VETERANS CARE. WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE WEEKLY ON MONDAYS IN FY25. VOLUNTEER COORDINATION AND PUPPY ENRICHMENT CENTER ON JUNE 7, 2025, ADW HOSTED MORE THAN 80 PEOPLE AT THE TRAINING CENTER FOR A VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION OPEN HOUSE, TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE FOR THE THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF TIME THAT THE VOLUNTEERS GIVE TO ADW. THIS VOLUNTEER TIME SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING OF OUR WORKING DOGS. OUR VOLUNTEERS INCLUDE PUPPY SITTERS AT THE PUPPY ENRICHMENT CENTER; FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME PUPPY RAISERS; RAIL TRAIL WALKERS; AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS WHO GENEROUSLY DONATE THEIR PRO-BONO SKILLS AND SERVICES AND ATTEND SPECIAL EVENTS. ADW NOW HAS A ROBUST CORPS OF MORE THAN 100 VOLUNTEERS, WHO REGULARLY AND GENEROUSLY DONATE THEIR TIME TO ADW. THIS INCLUDES OUR VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR, SUSAN RIVENBARK, WHO IS A VOLUNTEER HERSELF AND IS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE RECRUITING AND ONBOARDING OF OUR GENEROUS VOLUNTEERS. IN 2024, THESE INCREDIBLY COMMITTED AND VALUED INDIVIDUALS DONATED MORE THAN 80,0000 HOURS OF THEIR TIME CARING FOR ADW DOGS ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY AS PART OF THEIR FOUNDATION TRAINING, THE PUPS SPEND THEIR FIRST DAYS AND MONTHS AT THE PUPPY ENRICHMENT CENTER, WHERE THE FOUNDATION IS SET FOR THEIR FUTURE SERVICE WORK. IN FY25, TWO LITTERS WERE WHELPED OUT AT THE PEC: ADW WELCOMED THE OCEAN LITTER ON NOVEMBER 4, 2024. THIS LITTER WAS BORN TO MAMA DOG ROSIE AND SIRED BY DREAMER; THERE WERE A TOTAL OF NINE PUPPIES.
