	In 2025 we worked to support passed initiatives on paid sick leave and minimum wage. For both projects, we helped build a coalition, supported leaders with lived experience, and worked to advocate for support in the state legislature. We also joined with other Nebraska organizations to explore and then support a new ballot initiative campaign to protect the ballot initiative process from legislative overreach.

Explanation:

We are respectfully requesting abatement of penalties assessed in connection with the late filing of our organization's Form 990 for the tax year ending December 31, 2025. We believe reasonable cause exists for the delay, and we ask that the IRS exercise its discretion to waive the associated penalties. The individual responsible for submitting our extension request was unexpectedly absent from work immediately prior to the filing deadline due to a family member's emergency surgery and subsequent recovery period. In that employee's absence, a miscommunication within our organization led leadership to believe in good faith that an extension had been properly submitted before the original deadline. We later learned that no extension had in fact been filed. Upon discovering this oversight, we acted immediately to bring our filing into compliance and submitted our Form 990 as promptly as possible. We take our filing obligations seriously. In response to this incident, we have implemented updated internal procedures to ensure that all future filing deadlines and extension requests are assigned, tracked, and independently verified - including contingency coverage in the event a responsible party is unexpectedly unavailable. This is the first instance in our organization's history of a late Form 990 filing. We have otherwise maintained a consistent record of timely and compliant filings, and we are committed to continuing that record going forward. Based on the reasonable cause described above - specifically, an unforeseeable medical emergency affecting a key employee, a good-faith belief that proper steps had been taken, and our immediate corrective action upon learning of the error - we respectfully request that all penalties related to this late filing be abated in full.
